Inclement Weather Policy

In the event of inclement weather, Premier High School Austin (Wells Branch) will choose from three options: 

  • Close school for the day

  • Delay the opening of school for two hours

  • Remain open

Safety is our main concern in deciding whether school opens during inclement weather. It is impossible to know the road conditions in all areas served by our school since many of our students come from various school districts, we urge you to use your own judgment in deciding whether or not your child should go to school if driving seems unsafe. 

The decision to delay or close school is a careful decision informed by a number of factors, including temperature and wind chill, levels of snow and ice, road conditions, the availability of public transit, and how these conditions are forecast to develop over the course of the day. 

How and When Are Decisions Made? 

Because our campus is within Austin ISD's geographical boundaries, our school closures and delays are in line with AISD. Whenever there is compelling information the day before anticipated inclement weather, a decision will be made regarding delays/closures before 10:00 p.m., if possible. If there is no information before 10:00 p.m. the day before, a decision will be made the next day by approximately 6:00 a.m. Please check our website and Facebook page for delay and closure information. 

How Will I Be Notified? 

As soon as the decision is made for the school to delay or close, a message will be sent out using Parent Square. This system allows us to send phone, text messages, and email messages using the information we have on file for your student.  The information will also be posted to our Website Homepage and Facebook!

Please note that we will only send notifications if the school is delayed or canceled. We will NOT make an announcement if there is no impact on the school schedule. We also urge you to ensure that your contact information is correct by calling the school office at 512-614-4537.

How Do Delays Work?

Unless otherwise noted, delays typically mean the school day begins two hours later than usual.

  • If your school hours are 8:00 - 12:00 PM, then school will begin at 10:00 AM. Doors will open at 9:45 AM. 
  • If your school hours are 8:00 - extended hours, then school will begin at 10:00 AM. 
  • PM students may not experience a two hour delay. Please monitor Facebook and school announcements. 
 

When Are Make-Up Days?

Each year, Premier High School Austin Wells Branch schedules two make-up days. In the event of school closure due to inclement weather, please see the School Calendar for approved bad weather make-up days.

The safety of the PHS community remains the district's top priority. Premier High School Austin (Wells Branch) will excuse tardies for students and staff members due to weather or circumstances related to inclement weather.
